12′ Lawton Yacht Tender
This is a lapstrake boat with each plank overlapping the previous plank, and the overlapped seams are epoxied together resulting in a very strong, always watertight joint. Because of the high strength of the epoxy adhesive, the entire hull is effectively one piece producing a strong, lightweight boat (think of an eggshell) that does not need the internal frames of a traditional lapstrake boat. The interior is clean and uncluttered.
The original design of this pretty boat is from the boatyard of Charlie Lawton in Marblehead, Massachusetts, circa 1920. The original boat design was 10’ but I stretched it to 12’ to add stability in our local waters.
The planking is made from okoume marine plywood and the gunwales, stem and transom are made from sepele mahogany.
Length: 12’ Beam: 49” Weight: 88 lbs.
