This Spurling Yacht Tender’s design is from John Gardner’s book “Building Classic Small Craft”, where we can readily feel his admiration for this boat. It has beautiful, traditional lines and is a very lightweight, functional rowing boat. The construction is from 6mm okume plywood with the individual planks epoxy glued along the overlaps. The stem, transom and rails are made from solid sepele mahogany. The seats are ash. The entire hull is epoxy coated then given at least 3 coats of varnish.
Due to the high strength of the epoxied joints and the rigidity of the overlapping seams, traditional frames can be omitted yielding a clean, open interior.
